Dr. Qassim Al Breesam

Born in Basrah in 1948, he worked as a lecturer at Basrah University. Four of his relatives were executed. He was arrested in his hometown after the 1991 uprising, was transferred to the Al Radhwaniya Palace Prison where he endured three years of terror and pain. He still carries the mental and physical scars to this day. Qassim was among those prisoners paraded in shackles before Ali Hassan Al Majid, known as Chemical Ali. He wrote a book about his experience entitled “The Spark and the Ashes”. His testimony was recorded on September 5th 2004.
